Happy Fifth Anniversary & MLK Day

On today, January 17th, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coincides with the five year anniversary of Leavenworth Street’s very first post.

So, we figured today was as good as any to post this quote from Dr. King:

If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

Have a great day, maybe some politics later, or on Twitter.

Why would you pick a quote citing 3 dead white males as examples of excellence? The National Action Network demands an apology!
A more sensitive quote would cite equal numbers of black and hispanic artists! See how institutional racism lurks under the surface of everything?

  2. Happy birthday to the online denizens of Leavenworth Street. The personnel changes have taken a toll, but I do appreciate how much hard work goes into keeping this site going. Looking forward to many friendly skirmishes in the future.

I believe Kyle is referring to all those who have abandoned the egocentric drivel on his NNN for the far more down-to-earth debate which takes place here on Leavenworth Street.

It appears Kyle is promoting a “newbie” in the blogging arena – the Blue Sow. It must be someone he’s closely associated with or he wouldn’t be promoting the “competition.” I wonder who it could be?

I’d have a hard time describing the debates on this blog as “down-to-earth.” But why would they be? Streetsweeper and I are the voices of a generation!
