New Kerrey ad: Republicans are awesome

Bob Kerrey has a new ad out. See it here:

OK, so along with being for that genius Democrat idea of higher taxes, Kerrey says he is for some great Republican ideas. And that he is just for, “What’s right.”

Ah, got it. Bob Kerrey, that great Republican stalwart.

Well, Bob Kerrey has been “back” in Nebraska for a little over a month now. So lets take a look at all the politicians he has been meeting with:

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)
Michael Bennet (D-CO)
Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI)
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
Senator Max Baucus (D-MT)
Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE)
Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR)
Senator Tom Carper (D-DE)
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)
Senator Carl Levin (D-MI)
Senator Mark Udall (D-CO)
Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ)
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA)

Gee that is some list there. Now, let us go back over that list and count how many Republicans Kerrey has met with.
(Hmm…1,2,3…6…13…) Uh, ZERO.

And let’s see how many Republicans voted for ObamaCare, which Kerrey says he is for (but a super-increased ObamaCare!).
Uh, that would be ZERO.

So that is just awesome that Kerrey finds himself to be Mr. Middle of the Road. As a matter of fact, just about every Democrat we know, from the lefty Dem to the righty Dem thinks that they reside squarely in the middle of the U. S. of A. That is the way liberals think.

But even lefty Bob Kerrey conceded that he grew more and more liberal the longer he lived in New York City.

So nice try Bob.
You are more liberal than Ben Nelson.
And you are too liberal for Nebraska.

When Bob Kerrey says he’s back, he means ‘back in the New York groove’.

AFP should use that song in a commercial, maybe over some footage of Cosmic Bob striding through his beloved West Village.

  2. RWP says:

“Democrats have some great ideas, like raising taxes on the rich….and Republicans have some great ideas, like…uu…uuh”

    “CUT!”

“It’s cutting regulations, Bob! Try to remember that!”

    “TAKE 56!”

  3. Macdaddy says:

Does Bob Kerrey support that great Republican idea of not voting for Harry Reid as majority leader? No? That’s what I thought. Thanks for playing Bob.

  4. Reality Check says:

“The net result of his patrol was 21 Viet Cong killed, two hooches destroyed and two enemy weapons captured.”

  5. BkDodge42 says:

Couldn’t Bob Kerrey have met with Mike Johanns, or any of the congressmen from Nebraska, or what about something really crazy like meeting with Mayor Jim Suttle even. Why is it the list is only out of state politicians?

  6. “… just about every Democrat we know, from the lefty Dem to the righty Dem thinks that they reside squarely in the middle of the U. S. of A.”
Hmmmmmm. Well, I DO reside about 50 miles from the geographic center of the lower 48, and everyone in Nebraska is within 500 miles of Belle Fourche, SD – the geographic center of the U. S. of A. – so, where is it again that most of you GOPers in this state believe it is that you live? Oh, yeah, Bizarro World!

  7. No, BTO says:

No, BTO, I live just a few miles from where you live. I used to work in New York City, and I know that Bob,”close UNMC’s College of Pharmacy” Kerrey will never, ever, live in Nebraska. And that his views are about as far from Holdrege(one d) as you can get. The center of the U.S.A. is about as far from partial-birth abortion as is the moon. Would Bob Kerrey vote to give Nebraskan’s hard earned tax dollars to illegals? You betcha!

  8. Anonymous says:

I guess with so much Bob Kerry love in the air the Legislature got caught up in it all, especially Mikey Flood. Sen Gloor is really a piece too, with all the illegals in GI Gloor has shown how tone deaf he is. The two of them should make good staffers for Cosmic Bob. Hehehe

  9. To Anonymous says:

Is it an assault when the medal was not earned? No Viet Cong were in the Village that night. The only causalities were old folks, women and children. Bob Kerrey refuses to discuss the matter. Go find the story its on the web.

  10. Dog the Bounty Hunter says:

Their is a war crimes warrant for Bob’s arrest in Vietnam. He would only be one of a few US citizens that has that issued against him.

  11. Anonymous says:

When you Chicken Hawks win the Medal of Honor than you can bitch all you want. War is not a John Wayne movie where everything is cut and dry. No one really cares about what you think when it it comes to a real hero and and what he did in Vietnam. Bob Kerrey may win in November he may not win. But in the UNITED STATES Hall of Fame there is a place for him and none of the Chicken Hawks on LS. So go home cry in your soup and realize that you never have and never will be some one who was elected Governor of Nebraska or a Senator from Nebraska. Nor will you be some one who served his country the best he could and lost a limb in the service of his country. Now if America gave awards for bitching and having hangovers many readers of LS would win the (HPS) also nicknamed the RWP. HPS means high pussy award. Now go back to your Chuck Norris movies and talk the talk.

To Anonymous April 12, 2012 at 8:09 PM Why don’t you make a citizens arrest of Senator Kerrey then? While your at it why don’t you arrest John McCain who bombed Villages in Vietnam and killed helpless civilians.

  13. vet says:

7:54. Your comment suggests a lack of understanding. All veterans who run for public office, Republican and Democrat, whip out their service like a stiffy when needed. And Kerrey has already done that a few times in this race. Surprised? Why? Bob used his own child as an excuse for not running and then used his wife as his excuse for running. He stuck a K-Bar between Chuck H’s ribs at the T-12 to the hilt. So my guess is, you are some paper pushing MOS, or 702, or yeoman or just never had the nuts to serve. Some of us marched, flew and sailed into harm’s way for decades and we all appreciate Bob Kerrey’s service and loss of his foot. Some of us have similar losses and some worse. And Bob always says he took his MOH on behalf of all who should have gotten medals but didn’t. But Kerrey is not above using his child, wife, service, friends, anything to get a boot up politically, as he is doing that right now. As for his actual service, he laid that on the table when he ran for office, just like any veteran would. And his service was damn short. Bob was a SEAL two years and in RVN two months, mustered medret as a JG. We have troops today with a dozen years of combat tours in as many years and far more PHs. Bob got a bad break, but by his own words he has few combat ops; in one Kerrey admits he left a lot of dead innocents, and in the other he split his force, got noticed and lost his foot. Well shit happens. Like any guy who has seen battle, he’s lucky to have survived it. But damn few of us vets are willing to drag all that with us into the filthy pit of politics. That is Kerrey’s choice. I think Kerrey deserved the MOH as well as any. But anyone who has been in it knows you never get medals for the stuff you know you deserved but only when the brass thinks you deserve it. So lighten up, citizen, because if people scrutinize Bob Kerrey’s history on which he plants his right to run for office as a figure of respect, that was his own choice to drag all that to this arena. Coach Tom Osborn looked damn sooty too after a few years in politics. Kerrey drags his veterancy into the lime light, he runs on it, and, frankly, he doesn’t seem all that proud of what he did over there. There are a lot of veterans who saw more, did more, for longer and don’t feel they have to shy away from it.

I once had this low paying job on a ten minute alert posture to personally visit cities and drop nuclear warheads on them. I did that for you. And now you tell me you don’t love me for it? Does this mean you won’t go with me to the prom? I could wear a donkey tie? An elephant hat?

  15. Kerry for NYC Mayor says:

Looks like Bob is pulling out the old Nebraska Democrat playbook: talk moderate to get the votes and then vote liberal when you get to Washington. Liberalism 101: Do as I say, not as I do.

Does this guy really think Nebraskan’s will vote for another liberal in moderate clothing? Have we not learned from our past mistakes?

  16. Bam Kerrey says:

Oh, sure, Republicans have good ideas. Richard Nixon wanted us to kill Charlie. But some of us didn’t feel that went far enough, so we also got Charlie’s folks and kids when we got the chance. Just because Republicans have good ideas doesn’t mean we can’t make them better.

  17. Dick Whitman says:

This is the best political google ad of all time.

    “Jack Heidel for Congress
Not Terry again; Not Glenn Freeman, Lindstrom, Anderson or Fortenberry!”

  18. vet says:

You don’t have to go to war to read a book. Just say no to being stupid. Listen up and learn.

Democrat JFK, after putting Castro into power by refusing to support CIA-op freedom fighters at the Bay of Pigs, and later nearly stumbling into nuclear war, it was JFK who sent the first U. S. combat troops to Vietnam. Then Democrat Lyndon Johnson “escalated” the war out of control. The Chicago Democratic Convention riots were all against Johnson. It was a Democratic Party run Vietnam war. Nixon got elected on the promise of prying America out of Vietnam, which he did by pounding Hanoi in Linebacker II in 1972. A lot of guys ended up dead or POWs to end that war that Democrat presidents stumbled us into and escalated and that Americans weren’t willing to let us win. We fought with our hands tied behind our backs, thanks to ignorant Americans like some here.

  19. @ Anon #14, based on your post, I can only assume you support the criminal actions that have committed by our armed forces from Kerrey’s little debacle until now…correct? I mean, if killing women in children in cold blood is okay once, it’s okay a thousand times, right??

  20. Bam Kerrey says:

Ah, you’re right, Anon 6:59. Nixon doesn’t deserve any credit for what the Democrats and I inflicted on Vietnam.

  21. Lil Mac says:

“I would say if you bet, you’d have to bet against me… I’ve been away 11 years. I’m a Democrat. Obama’s going to top the ticket, and he’s probably going to be unpopular. So I’d say the odds are probably not good.” –Bob Kerrey, January 2012.

Sometimes the man gets it right.

  22. vet @ 8:30 a.m.,
You have to read all of the chapters in your history books if you want to be taken seriously. You don’t get to just pick and choose the ones that support your revisionist history. Please follow your own advice.

The 1st direct shipment of U.S. military aid to Saigon arrived in January, 1955 while the U.S. was already training the South Vietnamese Army. U.S. Air Force Colonel, E.G. Landsdale, a CIA operative, advised Prime Minister Diem following a U.S. rigged plebiscite in October of of that same year.

President Eisenhower calls Diem a “Miracle Man” and pledges his support during a 1957 state visit in by the South Vietnamese dictator. Eisenhower said at the time, “”The cost of defending freedom, of defending America, must be paid in many forms and in many places…military as well as economic help is currently needed in Vietnam.”

The first American to die in the Vietnam War were Maj. Dale Buis and Sgt. Chester Ovnand, who were kiled at Bien Hoa in South Vietnam, on July 8, 1959.

President Kennedy did not take office until January 20, 1961.

  23. Grundle, and others,

War is hell. If you guys are going to hang that “baby killer” tag on Bob Kerrey, then you’d better go out and remove the little, yellow, magnetic ribbons (made in China) that proclaim your “support” for the troops from your cars. There isn’t a bullet, a bomb, a grenade, an RPG, or any other weapon of war that is capable of discerning between a civilian and a combatant. Collateral damage happens. It is a deplorable fact, one that should silence all the saber rattlers that want us to attack Iran and North Korea. Another fact is, every time we have “collateral damage” we create even more enemies.

If you condemn Bob Kerrey then you must also condemn every one of our Navy, Marine, Air Force and U.S. Army Air Corp crewmen that dropped bombs on the cities of our enemies. You must condemn the wives, sisters, mothers, and aunts that produced those bombs in our factories. You must condemn every American citizen that supported our troops as they marched off to war.

I would bet good money that most of you that are now condemning Bob Kerrey were jumping up and down in your living rooms as the cruise missiles struck Baghdad on the opening day of our war in Iraq. Many of those same cruise missiles went astray and blew babies to bits. Will you be as eager to condemn the Republican President, George W. Bush, for those atrocities?

Yeah, a lot of veterans flaunt their service when they run for office. The reason they get to do that is because they actually SERVED their country; it is part of their résumé. If you never served in the military, and were never in combat, then you have no business judging those who were. And, RWP, I’ve already heard your rant about the military being under civilian command. As one who takes advantage of the freedoms that the sacrifices of American servicemen have granted you, I believe you should be a bit more thankful.

  24. RWP says:

    BTO:

According to Klann and the survivors, Kerrey’s men deliberately stabbed two Vietnamese grandparents and three grandchildren to death. They then executed a larger group of women and children. These weren’t collateral damage; they were elaborate and cold-blooded executions, because (Kerrey claimed, once) they had orders to kill anyone they came into contact with, orders that no one else can find and which directly contradict the laws of land warfare.

That isn’t collateral damage. They didn’t kill these folks accidentally while carrying out lawful warfare; they killed them deliberately to conceal their presence.

Now you can not believe Klann and the survivors; there are defensible reasons not to. You can discount Kerrey’s multiple conflicting stories about the incident. But don’t lump this under ‘shit that happens in wartime’. It may indeed happen in wartime, but this country has had the historic position that if you execute noncombatants, you pay the price.

Read Greg Vistica’s book. It’s not from a right-wing source. it’s reasonably well written. And it’s cheap if you buy it online.

My own feeling is there is probably not enough evidence to convict Kerrey at the Hague. But an election is not a trial; ‘preponderance of evidence’ or an even lower standard of proof will suffice.

Of course, I wouldn’t have voted for him anyway. And I hail originally from a country where, a few years later, foreign soldiers were bursting unannounced into people’s houses, tearing them up, hauling off men for ‘interrogation’, and occasionally going a little crazy shooting others. So my sympathies are not 100% with Kerrey’s men.

  25. RWP says:

On a lighter note, I tweeted a slightly abbreviated version of RWP @ April 12, 2012 at 4:32 PM, and got a reply from the Kerrey campaign “Thanks for your support, Gerard!”

It could, I support, be dry West Village humor, but more likely, I think, the Junior Dem manning the social media is klooless.

I thought you were Irish, RWP. It sounds like you are describing what the IRA did to a lot of Brits. Actually they did even worse things but we know you can’t deny supporting the IRA terrorists.

I thought you were Irish, RWP. It sounds like you are describing what the IRA did to a lot of Brits.

The IRA really didn’t get into the warrantless searches.

Actually they did even worse things but we know you can’t deny supporting the IRA terrorists.

You know what the voices in your head tell you, but if you can find any record of my supporting IRA terrorists, post it and it will be a complete surprise to me. I had no idea I was sleepwalking.

And by the way, going by the IRA men I have met, there is no way I would post allegations about an actual living IRA member, even under the craven cowardice of anonymity, because it’s a good way to end up dead. So you’re dumb as a brick, or a liar. It’s not an exclusive ‘or’, though.

  28. Bam, you ARE the monkey poop that I speak so frequently of.

RWP, looks like you’ve got your own idiot stalker. I could teach you how to use “your” IRA talents to make money with “my” Mafia skills. There are a LOT of elderly women just begging to be beaten. 😉
(for the ignoramuses in the peanut gallery – the preceding statement was an exercise in sarcasm. Geez! I wish I didn’t have to point this out to you every freaking time!)

On your comment, “… this country has had the historic position that if you execute noncombatants, you pay the price …” Not really. Thousands of our troops have committed atrocities, as have the armies of every nation for centuries, and most have gotten nothing but a wrist slap – I offer Lt. Calley and Oliver North as prime examples. I remember hearing tales from both my dad and a friend’s dad of them witnessing groups of Japanese POWs escorted into the jungles of the Solomon Islands and summarily executed. A LOT of crap happens in war, most of it deplorable. The worst part of it is that the thugs that start the wars, those that command the troops that fight them, and those that profit from creating the tools used in war, are seldom introduced to the gallows they deserve.
