The Nebraska thing

balloonsDemocrat Congressman Brad Ashford was on 1290 KOIL radio’s Matt Tompkins show to discuss the Husker players kneeling during the national anthem.

Ashford praised the players’ outreach to Coach Mike Riley about their plans before the game, but feels now that the kneeling should be over:

“I think now though, I think the statement’s been made.

And they have a perfect right to make the statement.

But I think now, I think we do the Nebraska thing.”

He went on to talk about “starting a dialogue,” presumably starting with Governor Ricketts and Michael Rose-Ivey.

Ashford did not expand upon his feelings about what happens if the players continue the protest for the rest of the season.

No word on whether or not Stephen A. Smith thinks that Ashford too should be “dealt with” since the players did not previously do “the Nebraska thing”.

Answer? He’s already up!

Onto the national scene, while Hillary Clinton was known for sleeping through the 3am phone call on Benghazi, Donald Trump is now known for being awake at 3am…Tweeting.

**UPDATE while I’m writing this…honest to Gaia**

But the Trump camp has also come out with a new TV ad focusing on Hillary’s recent wild speech where she yelped, “Why aren’t I 50 points ahead!” See it here:

You knew the campaign HAD to use that in an ad sometime soon. Though the word has been that TV stations have not made the kind of money from Trump ads like they have from other candidates in the past. We will have to watch to see how much this ad breaks through on the airwaves.

Debate debate

In the FWIW category, since we’re STILL talking about “who won” Monday’s debate, Gallup put out this summary, of who has won the debates and who has won the elections in past years:

At some point, should Trump come out victorious, look for a story to go something like, he threw the first debate to put expectations SO low for the second debate, closer to the election, so he had nowhere to go but up…

Behold the 3-layered chess board…

Senate tips

And since so much happened in-between, a few notes from others after the debates…

Senator Ben Sasse watched, and tweeted about, Monday Night Football.

Senator Deb Fischer was one of a few elected Republicans willing to give Trump constructive criticism:

“It was a strong performance at the beginning; I think he missed some opportunities,” Fischer said. “For example the cybersecurity question: I wish he would have asked Mrs. Clinton about her server and her emails and the issue we have there with security and dealing with that.”

Fischer told HuffPost that during the debate, a female friend of hers in her 30s texted her, dismayed that Clinton defended herself by bringing up policies pushed by her husband, President Bill Clinton.

“She said: ‘This just set women back years,” Fischer said of her friend’s text.

When reminded that Trump attacked Clinton based on her husband’s record repeatedly during the debate, Fischer dismissed it.

“Oh, I thought he held back on it,” she said.

Open HQ

As noted here the other day, for those interested the Trump Campaign will have an Open House at their new campaign HQ in Omaha, 210 N 78th St., First Floor.

“while Hillary Clinton was known for sleeping through the 3am phone call on Benghazi”

A farcical tale known only to those in the Land of the Looney.

Bob Gates, former Sec Def, Dir of the CIA and Deputy National Security Advisor prefers to view the opinion as; “cartoonish”.

    • anonymous says:

She put out the ad on her buddy Obama, and she blew it, you can’t make this crap up, for all intents and purposes sparkles, it’s true

      • Sparkles says:

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both answered that 3am phone call.
It’s only in Looney Land that Benghazi-Benghazi was ever a ‘scandal’.

        May 12, 2013 –
Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates defended the Obama administration’s decision-making during the Benghazi assault, saying he would have made the same calls if he were still on the job.
“I think my decisions would have been just as theirs were,” Gates said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,”

        November 22, 2014 –
“WASHINGTON — The CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, a Republican-controlled House committee has found. Its report asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration officials.

        June 28, 2016 –
“WASHINGTON — Ending one of the longest, costliest and most bitterly partisan congressional investigations in history, the House Select Committee on Benghazi issued its final report on Tuesday, finding no new evidence of culpability or wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton in the 2012 attacks in Libya that left four Americans dead.”

        June 28, 2016 –
“Hillary Clinton Cleared of Any Fault in Benghazi Investigation, One of the Costliest in Congressional History”

        Sept 14, 2016 –
“Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt,” Powell wrote. “Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who (thought) Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place.”

There have been EIGHT separate investigations of Benghazi-Benghazi. It is the most investigated incident in the history of America. Hundreds of thousands of man hours. Truck load upon truck load of documentation gathered, collated and disseminated. Millions and Millions and Millions of dollars.
        And you’ve got Nothing. Nada.
It was all a wholly transparent political dog and pony show, attempting to hobble HRC going into the 2016 election.

Any time you folks would like to join us here on planet earth, we’ll still welcome you into the light.
There are roads crumbling, children hungry, schools failing, grifters grifting – lot’s of real work that needs to be done on behalf of the American people.

      • Sparkles says:

        Wrong again –

        PolitiFact – Feb 9, 2016 –
“It is impossible to know with certainty what Clinton told these families in brief conversations at a private reception only three days after Benghazi. Some, but not all, family members who have spoken to the media said Clinton mentioned a video or protests in their meeting. Some said she didn’t mention a video. Clinton says she did not.

If she did say something about the video, would it have been an intentional lie? It’s very possible that this is one of the many conflicting pieces of intelligence that the administration was working with at the time.

There simply is not enough concrete information in the public domain for Rubio or anyone to claim as fact that Clinton did or did not lie to the Benghazi families.”

Based on the findings of the the Nov 2014, GOP-led House panel Benghazi probe – which exonerated HRC –
“Rice repeated talking points that wrongly described a protest over a video deemed offensive to Muslims.
But Rice’s comments were based on faulty intelligence from multiple agencies, according to the report. Analysts received 21 reports that a protest occurred in Benghazi, the report said – 14 from the Open Source Center, which reviews news reports; one from the CIA; two from the Defense Department; and four from the National Security Agency.
In the years since, some participants in the attack have said they were motivated by the video.”

This is consistently detailed in all EIGHT investigations of Benghazi.
There was in fact a video that had incited violence throughout the mideast at the very moment of the Benghazi-Benghazi attack.
        There were
in fact intelligence agencies that told HRC and Susan Rice, the State Dept and Obama Admin that the video was, at least in part, to blame for the attack in Benghazi-Benghazi.
There were in fact fighters on the ground in Benghazi-Benghazi that would later tell military and intelligence experts that the video had inspired them to commit acts of violence.
There was in fact ‘a fog of war’ surrounding the attack in the initials days after.

Of course, you won’t hear any this reported by Hannity, Limbaugh orAlex Jones. You won’t see it written about in Breitbart, Drudge or World Nut Daily.
Because the truth doesn’t feed the rage of those so deeply invested in hating the Clintons.
The truth doesn’t fill the coffers of the predators and grifters who’ve gotten filthy rich from a hate-for-profit business model.

      • bynd says:

So you are insulting Gold Star families by calling them liars. Just as Hillary has. What is the difference between you, HRC and Trump when it comes to such things? Nothing!

      • Fair and Balanced says:

Don’t confuse the folks with Clinton derangement syndrome with facts. It just causes them to foam at the mouth even more.

Even rumors of Clinton reacting to the situation based on unconfirmed and/or faulty intelligence is grounds for the crazies to call for her imprisonment. After all several people died in the Benghazi-Benghazi fiasco. On the other hand we just have to accept that poor George W. Bush was acting in good faith when his people manipulated the facts to justify starting a war that has cost thousands of American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. George and Dick were just doing the right (wing) thing at the time.

Sparkles, there is a story today that Hillaslut didn’t contact Obama, who was Awol for 6 hours. Not only as I told you she didn’t answer the call, she enabled delay, even worse, to do the thing she is best at, washing her hands knowing from her vast “experience” she could do what the Clinton clan has done their whole careers, obfuscating every crap decisions they made while accumulating cash

  2. bynd says:

If the purpose of a protest is to bring an issue to the public so it can be changed, shouldn’t the protest continue until the issue has been changed? Did MLK have one march and quit?

As a Vietnam vet, I have no issue with the protest. I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the US. Not a flag or song. Regardless how important both maybe to the military or the country. In the end, the protest reflects on the protesters more than the flag or song and indeed, the flag and song stand for the US, good and bad.

But to me, the questions that need to be asked are, will those taking a knee keep doing it until the problem is solved? What will determine when the issue is resolved? (Not just when the black American is not being oppressed. What does that look like?)

As I have always understood it, taking a knee in sports is usually during a break to allow one to catch their breath, or mostly, it is a symbol of subjugation to the thing or person being knelt to.

So is it a protest or a show subjugation? And who gets to define it? And is it really worth all of this tempest in a teapot?

Every time Trump brings up Bill Clinton’s infidelity, another couple pages of Trumps tax returns will mysteriously appear and be published. And I will sit back, laugh and eat popcorn. There is no way this isn’t fun. Trump says he’s nasty, but he’s going to be taken apart one page at a time. Trump can’t stand not being in control and now he’s owned.

  4. Anonymous says:

Why would RWP so profoundly hate Trump? This usually dispassionate epitome of iconoclasm and rebellion within leftist academia shares neither a Sasse-like Senate opportunity nor a Jeb-like denied princely anointment. The anti-establishment, dynasty busting, PC-killing, business outsider Trump is after all a son of the Orkney’s, as Harbison is a son of Eire, with Scots no less exterminated by the Clearances than Black and Tan’s shot holes in Dublin residents. Maybe this comes down to booze.

A Scot who doesn’t drink is an indecipherable threat to an Irishman.

Come on. It’s funny. Lighten up.

    • I am not a son of Éire (please observe the fada). I am a son of Ireland, the name of the country in English. You wouldn’t ordinarily call a German a Deutschlander,

(See, we have our own version of PC)

Orcadians are largely the offspring of Norse invaders. As am I. Not Scots (which actually used to mean Irish).

There are no teetotal Scots. It’s a myth. They drink like fishes, feast on deep-fried Mars bars, and die at the age of 52. All of them.

Drumpf is an American, which is a fine thing to be, unless you’re turning your own country into an international laughingstock, which he is.
