Ashford Riot

Well, if instead of the Mayweather-McGregor fight, you were betting on when Brad Ashford would flip-flop on another issue, and you placed your money on “This week!”…winner winner chicken dinner!

Brad Ashford stepped bravely forward and tweeted and re-tweeted and re-posted and Facebooked how much he luuuuuvs DACA. How much does he love DACA?

A lot!

Because he says so, right here:

I support the existing DACA and oppose the efforts by the administration to repeal it.

Which is awesome, because he said the exact opposite in 2015 when he was still a Congressman:

“I do not agree with the unilateral action taken by the president,” Ashford said.

That’s fine. We’re sure none of Ashford’s opponents have paid any attention to this.

Probably won’t even bring it up…in their literature…online ads…in debates…

Keep on truckin’, Brad. (Let us know if you’re sticking with that name, btw…)

Riotous

The whole yell-down of the UNL students on campus has pretty much been covered everywhere, locally and nationally.

One interesting point was what UNL “PhD student and lecturer” Courtney Lawton was chanting at the UNL TPUSA student rep, Katie Mullen:

As you watch it, you hear Lawton saying, “neo-fascist Becky right here, Becky the neo-fascist right here.”

This meant nothing to me, and probably many others.
But it means something to Lawton. As noted on the Powerline blog:

This is odd. Did Lawton somehow think that Katie’s name was Becky?

I don’t think so. This is the sort of thing that most people don’t know, but the Urban Dictionary says “Becky” means “a basic bitch.” It also means “hot white girl” and denotes a woman who enjoys giving oral sex.

It is this last meaning that was celebrated by a rapper named Plies in his rap titled “Becky,” which has been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube.

How very woke of Ms. Lawton.

And another person noted that Lawton seems to be a member of the Betsy Riot group. (Here she is at the TPUSA table, and another of a Rioter (note shoes and rings…).

You remember that Betsy Riot are the ones who do things like throw blood on Senator Deb Fischer’s door, and plasters this stuff on Don Bacon’s office.

Maybe I’ve missed the local Democrats denouncing all of this. Maybe I’ve missed their strong statements castigating this abhorrent behaviour of their supporters.

But probably not.

To hear a little more, here is Nebraska Regent Hal Daub discussing the matter with KLIN’s Coby Mach:

Workin’ for the Weekend

But hey, not to be outdone, here is your’s truly discussing Democrat Jane Raybould’s U.S. Senate candidacy with Mach last week.

Enjoy!

Viva la Papa!

Recently there were news reports about former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer getting the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican. This was news since Spicer didn’t get to meet with the Pope when President Trump did, and Spicer is Catholic, etc. etc. Palace intrigue and all that.

In any case, when this story hit, there was further info that four U.S. Congressmen were in the Papal audience (of about 100 people, it seems) with Spicer.

One of them was…Rep. Jeff Fortenberry.

And Fortenberry’s office confirmed that he WAS there, on behalf of the International Catholic Legislators Network.

His office reports that Fortenberry, “also had bilateral meetings with the Vatican foreign ministry, the US Embassy to the Vatican, and the US Mission to the United Nations on food security issues.”

But, apparently no photos with the Pontiff.

Or WERE THERE???

There’s this pic of the Pope greeting the audience, (with Sean Spicer in the front row, right, taking an iPhone pic):

Then, let’s glance to the left, back of the room. Who’s silver-gray doo is that back there?

Could it be?

Hmm. We may need an ex cathedra ruling on this…

Blank slate

Have a great weekend and Go Huskers!

I hate it when leftists and liberals use course language and rude gestures, because we all know only Nixon said “fuck.” We only know that because Nixon said “fuck” on tape and, besides, he was impeached for it. Certainly Donald Trump has never said “fuck,” only that scoundrel Rahm Emanuel. If Rahm’s middle fingers broke he’s lose his whole vocabulary.

I join Richard Nixon, Donald Trump, Rahm Emanuel and all users of course language and rude gestures in saying “fuck.” As in “give me a fucking break.”

In less enlightened times the whole phrase was a short route to being thrown out of a baseball game when said to the umpire.
If “bitch” is sexual harassment in a shouting match, even CatherineMcKinnon would be shocked. However morals have probably declined since Victoria was Queen.

  2. Democrat says:

Ashford did not ‘flip-flop’ on DACA.

    Check the record.
It was House Resolution 240 to which the Republicans an amendment to repeal DACA.
HR 240 was: “Making appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2015, and for other purposes”
Ashford voted Yes on House Resolution 240, and NO for the Republican attached amendment that would have defunded/repealed Obama’s Executive Order on immigration.

Whiny Brad tried to the straddle the fence, saying he didn’t like Obama’s unilateral approach while still supporting his E.O. on DACA.

Brad is better than Bacon, but both are crappy candidates.
Although, Rep. Bacon did openly embrace his inner RINO in his most recent, boisterous town hall in North O.
He even went all snowflakey on a few issues.

      • Anonymous says:

        Creighton must be proud.

The 300 number comes from a study conducted by West Point Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center. A study you can read yourself, titled:
Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right

The author of that study was recently featured in Newsweek. It’s a June 4, 2017 story titled:
“HOMEGROWN TERRORISM AND WHY THE THREAT OF RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM IS RISING IN AMERICA”
        From the story –
The number of violent attacks on U.S. soil inspired by far-right ideology has spiked since the beginning of this century, rising from a yearly average of 70 attacks in the 1990s to a yearly average of more than 300 since 2001. These incidents have grown even more common since President Donald Trump’s election.

Other than the shooting, how did you like the play Mrs. Lincoln?

And the Newsweek story cites the SPLC. Enough said.

Let me put it this way, if right wing violence was a big a deal as you are making it out to be Maddow and Hayes would have a regular segment on it each and every night.

And note that the masked antifa criminals are lefties and the Dem mayors in Berkeley and Charlottesville refused to arrest them. Today’s KKK doesn’t wear masks but the Left’s antifa does. What does that tell you?

The Left is resorting to violence and name calling because they can’t win at the ballot box. Far lefty (and ultra rich) Raybould won’t even get 40%. Face facts. Outside of Lincoln and a small part of Omaha, the Democrat party is dead in Nebraska and for good reason. Glad I left it.

Yes, antifa is the moral equivalent of neo-Nazis

        Marc A. Thiessen

Last weekend in Berkeley, Calif., a group of neo-communist antifa — “anti-fascist” — thugs attacked peaceful protesters at a “No to Marxism in America” rally, wielding sticks and pepper spray, and beating people with homemade shields that read (I kid you not) “No Hate.” The Post reports how one peaceful protester “was attacked by five black-clad antifa members, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself.”

The organizer of the anti-Marxism protest is not a white supremacist. Amber Cummings is a self-described “transsexual female who embraces diversity” and had announced on Facebook that “any racist groups like the KKK [and] Neo Nazis . . . are not welcome.” The protest was needed, Cummings said, because “Berkeley is a ground zero for the Marxist Movement.”

      • Anonymous says:

        Wow, Bluejay.
From the Newsweek story, you cite the following quote as your defense:
“excluding the Orlando nightclub massacre, between 2002-2016, far-right affiliated perpetrators conducted 18 attacks that killed 48 people in the United States, while terrorists motivated by al-Qaida’s or the Islamic State’s ideology killed 45 people in nine attacks.””

        So your defense is;
when we limit the definition of violence to only acts so heinous to have resulted in death, domestic right wing violence is only slightly worse than ISIS and al-Qaida.

That is the best argument you can make?
        Really?

        And regarding your comment:
“the masked antifa criminals are lefties”

The masked antifas and those who study activist groups would disagree, google:
“They have no allegiance to liberal democracy”: an expert on antifa explains the group.

Oh, but I forget, you’re a Creighton graduate who dismisses scholarship, dismisses expertise and dismisses terrorism experts from far left wing institutions like West Point Military Academy.

      • bynd says:

        Anonymous;

As we have continuously seen from your posting, whether or not a violent group is actually part of a party or not, it is the perception that counts. Keep saying they do, and the public buys into it. At least, other partisans do. Attack a group like the young lady at Berkley lead, it is automatically a far leftist wing of the progressives. Not because so much of who they are as to whom they attack.

You should learn to live with it just as you tried to force the conservatives to do. Perception is reality. Embrace the standard, it is yours.

And argue you all you want, your perception is meaningless. It is the voting independents who matter. And as far as they go, antifa is only an outgrowth of progressiveness.

OPINION | Antifa is not a political movement; it’s a delusional, violent outburst
        © Getty

The progressive left and their media comrades have been trying hard in recent weeks to construct a sympathetic narrative for “antifa.”

This is no easy task. These self-proclaimed “anti-fascists” (hence the name) have been showing up at rallies across the country since Trump’s inauguration, assaulting police with urine bombs, beating journalists bloody, and setting the occasional car on fire. All this is somehow supposed to protest fascism. Or Inequality. Or capitalism. It really depends on the day.

The good news is, to know antifa is to despise it.

Last weekend at Berkeley, America saw that at a supposed “Rally against Hate,” 13 of antifa’s ranks were arrested for viciously attacking law-abiding protesters who happen to support the Trump administration. After a series of gang-style ambushes on the streets, some of which were caught on chilling video, the list of alleged charges against antifa included assault with a deadly weapon and felony assault.

Unlike in Charlottesville a few weeks ago, there was no Nazi rally to speak of in Berkeley, just some run-of-the-mill Trump supporters gathered to exercise their First Amendment rights. This was too much.

Antifa showed itself to be a pack of childish vandals posing as heroic resistance. For a mob of predominantly white males to gather in paramilitary formation, dressed from head to toe in black, with masks and batons to protest “fascism” shows that this group has no sense of history.

That some of its storm troopers use shields with “no hate” emblazoned on them as battering rams shows that they have no sense of irony either. There’s only so much that favorable media coverage can do to downplay or obscure the truth about antifa, and it’s anti-free speech zealotry. The Berkeley violence broke through that barrier.

Now the political left feels exposed. Otherwise sympathetic outlets have called for “soul searching” about antifa, and even Nancy Pelosi finally felt the need to denounce the violence of the masked malcontents. But none of what we have seen of antifa is new.

Despite some media efforts to explain away the obvious, antifa has always been entirely indefensible. It’s not a political movement, it’s a violent outburst, an expression of the progressive left’s delusional emotionalism. Its primary mission is not the opposition of fascism, but the suppression of ideas.

As some have pointed out here again and again, the parties are two sides of the same coin. Has the right been more violent in the past? So what? Obama ignored Antifa like he did ISIS. They grew, like ISIS. And now the left has to deal with what they have feed and nurtured. And contrary to media hype, most Americans agree with Trump. The alt right and Antifa are moral equivalents. Both were responsible for Charlottsville.

Deal with the truth and tell us why the progressives allowed this to happen. Heather’s blood is on you.

As for Nixon, yes, he opened China and ended the Vietnam war that Democrats turned into a nightmare. But Nixon was also so un-crooked (guilelessness is the #1 presidential sin), the guy taped his own conversations. No adept crook would ever do such a thing. Nixon did. Plus, he was stupid enough to be a Republican. Democrats don’t cannibalize their own presidents.

Nixon quit before he could be removed. (Having principles is the #2 presidential sin.) He wasn’t impeached for ordering any crime be committed nor knowing of such in advance. Exactly like Clinton’s impeachable offense, Nixon was impeached for lying, for cover up after the fact, for trying to contain the damage. Might Nixon have survived like Clinton, had Nixon likewise just stuck it out? Perhaps. But I doubt it. Because Nixon chose to be a Republican.

Republicans are so principled they whip their own kids to death and then eat them. Democrats are pedophiles (love, after all, is a kindness) who fiddle any kid that drops by or rises to the Oval orifice.

Democrats stick together if they have 1% of issues in common. Republicans kill each other if they disagree by only 1%. It’s an odd pathology but real. Trump apparently sets both spinning.

“Not evil, just batshit crazy”. — Evil is always better than crazy or stupid. Does that sound surreal? It shouldn’t. Evil people don’t kill themselves or the geese who lay their gold eggs. Crazy people do. Stupidly feeling your way instead of thinking isn’t evil either yet that is the most dangerous of all.

Which brings me to what you likely find super surreal… nuclear weapons in NK’s hands and our nuke trigger in Trump’s. Yesterday you felt safe, today you feel unsafe. To me, your willing ignorance is surreal. That you feel instead of think is surreal. But you aren’t alone. Most Americans are stuck in a mass delusion that says we were safe until now.

People feel Trump has his finger on the nuclear trigger more than Obama or Bush did because Trump doesn’t hide uncomfortable truths. All presidents have had release authority since Truman. Yet America’s 1950’s backyard bomb-shelter fears, ebbing to Cold War concerns, moving on to a feeling of safety–when in fact the end of the USSR actually made the Armageddon threat worse–belies the dangerous stupidity of Americans feeling instead of thinking.

If feelings mattered, I’d be angry that you are so willingly dangerously blind, so dependent on your feelings to tell you what is real, that you endanger all that you and I hold dear.

I spent decades working with nuclear weapons. Delivery and planning. Unlike most officials and military leaders, I have been evaluated and certified 100% sane. Federal shrinks have guaranteed in writing that I am sane enough to deliver nukes onto cities full of people.

Now, before you go all snarky on that irony, show me your certificate of sanity! Don’t have one? Ah ha. That’s what I thought… you bat shit crazy you… stuck in your childish irrational comfort zone.

You want to talk batshit crazy? Fine. The U.S. Personnel Reliability Program, for all who handle nuclear weapons, specifically bars any significant mental condition or aberrant behavior. While you may wish to see Obama or Trump as being nuts, you have no proof, which you most certainly do have with a bona fide brain damaged spastic/collapsing Hillary who almost had her finger on the nuclear trigger as POTUS. And a brain-rotted McCain, who babbled incoherently at Comey, who still has Senate military oversight power today, whom Americans allowed to decide the fate of US healthcare even after everyone knew he had aggressive brain cancer smack in the middle of his cerebral “seat of judgement”. The only thing worse than real bat shit crazy is you stupidly feeling safe around it.

  13. Coeus says:

Your oddly unhinged ramble is about the simple faculty known as ‘reason’.

You delude yourself into believing it to be a unique quality of yourself and a select few, when in reality, reason is a faculty acquired (formal operational stage of reason) by the majority of people at the age of 11, or so. (girls younger than boys). It’s a faculty fully formed (largely unimpeded by hormones), in most, by the time they are in their early 20’s.

It is a faculty that in the last few decades is known to be far more pronounced in Democrats, than Republicans.
It is a faculty that appears to be strangely absent in nearly all Trumpers and the TEA partiers that preceded them.

One would be hard pressed to find a president in American history as lacking in reason as the incurious, attention deficit disordered clown you people saw fit to elect to the office. A man uniquely lacking every quality, and ignorant of every issue required to fulfill the role as leader of the most powerful nation on the planet.

What you exhibit in your rambling is yet another example of the tried-and-true right wing tactic of psychological projection.
You ‘project’ on others your own deficiencies. You deny a shortcoming of your own while attributing them to others.
It has been proven, by multiple studies, that it is the right wing brain – aka Trumpers, and a large swath of Republicans – who are the group driven by fear and emotion. A group much more prone to act on primitive gut instinct, and to be motivated by fear by feelings.
It is the left wing brain that has been proven to be far more prone to be motivated by and act on logic, intellect and reason.
Your own UNL Professor, John Hibbing, was one of the most recent to lend scientific credence to this well studied topic. His influential study, published in 2014, is titled; “Differences in negativity bias underlie variations in political ideology”.
Google away, read it for yourself. You’ll find it at the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, published by Cambridge University.

You people need to stop being played for fools.
You’re harming our nation and your mindless ignorance poses a real threat to the future prosperity of our nation and to the generations what will succeed us.

In Hillary Clinton’s daily bowel movement, you’ll find more reason than Donald Trump has exhibited in his entire time in office.

In John McCain’s second shake at the urinal, you’ll find more leadership ability than Donald Trump has shown since descending that escalator in June of 2016.

    • arrogance, the breakfst of losers says:

If you are the top reasoning dog, why are you so low on the political power list? I’m sure you have a good reasons for all your losses.

Remember, evolution is all about survival of the fittest.

You seem to be heading more towards extinction than flourishing.

  14. Harold says:

State Senator Laura Ebke turned to the Lincoln Journal Star over the weekend to vent her frustration at the recent partisan lurch of the Republican party.

    Quoting from the story:
“We ought to engage our brains and think independently,” Ebke said.

“As some of my colleagues have said, some of us came here to be a state senator, not a Republican state senator.”

Sen Ebke spoke out against the very partisanship that Republicans come to this site to celebrate.

    • Fake Issue says:

Laura Ebke need not worry about republicans as she is a democrat light. She has been on this excuse for a couple of years to justify her voting with the dems much as Krist rails against the governor as an excuse for their liberal votes. republican partisanship, they have the majority and the dems have no problem with their agenda thanks to senators like her, Mccollister, Schumacher, Krist, and so on. The only thing libertarian about her is liberal

  15. Brain Drain says:

We voted you in to be a Conservative Republican. We did not vote you in to ponder but rather to represent those conservative ideals of the people that put you in office. Don’t go there and get a case of the McCollisters.

  16. Pee pants senators says:

It’s easier to vote with the dems and play collegial when you are scared to be contrary and confronted by Ernie

    Whack’a de DACA.

Damn good thing that Obama told us over and over and over again that only Congress can pass laws on immigration and if Obama ever did that himself, it would violate his oath requiring he be boiled.

In 2009, Max Baucus designed Obamacare as a right-coopting of the insurance Industry. Obamacare has since worked like an anchor. Ker-plop! Socialist Sanders called for a left “single payer” healthcare, which failed in Bernie’s own Vermont. While Obamacare and Berniecare both failed, it seems Romneycare worked. Why? Not because of partisan politics. In fact, complex systems have a chance of working if set up by a Romney, Buffett or Trump who have created organizations that prosper. Now Baucus says Bernie’s single payer Socialism might be the best option after all. Baucus is guessing. But he may guess right. And I am a conservative.

I prefer free markets controlling care but that became forevermore impossible when >51% of Americans chose to vote themselves freebie care, even after they got a good whiff of Obamacare. Obama’s reelection sealed it. Trump was elected to make a socialist system that will actually work. And it will be a socialist system. For there is no right or left to it. Govt owing healthcare (VA/Bernie) and Govt coopting insurance (Obama/Baucus) are all government controlling care. Its all a form of socialism. And we won’t go back to no care, kids dying on the street. The USA is the only civilized nation without national healthcare. So the question remains, what system will actually work?

There will be funny moments in this. Americans who think they voted themselves Dom Perignon will get a paper cup of my VA care Boone’s farm. Like me they can wait in line or inherit a fortune to allow them to pay a non-govt doctor who actually washes his hands. Voters who expect Cadillac care for free are in for a rude shock. They won’t get that from a free clinic and they won’t get to visit expensive civilian doctors and still be able to sue them. When taxes are funding your care, you are a crash dummy, treated by doctors who hide in govt service because they don’t need a license there.

Socialized medicine is coming and your best chance of it not killing you is don’t let Democrat and GOP lawyers design it but rather expert system businessmen who have a clue what they are organizing.
